The Mercat de Música Viva de Vic enters today the final stretch of its 37th edition with an intense program running through Sunday, combining major names from the international and national scene with premieres and discoveries. After three days of frenetic professional activity, MMVV heads into the weekend with essential musical events and a closing concert, meant as a gift to the city, with Mishima on the Plaça Major stage.
Today’s program brings high-level performances from the US band Okkervil River, one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary indie rock, and the duo LINA_ & Marco Mezquida, offering a deep dialogue between fado and pianistic reinvention. Strength and sensitivity will come with Baby Volcano, blending intensity and avant-garde in a powerful live show; Verlaat, presenting his first LP; and Sofía Gabanna, starting her tour with her new single Yo soy yo, affirming a strong urban voice. Also featured are C’mon Tigre, with a sound drawing from Brazilian rhythms and global experimentation; Kiliki, one of the most promising emerging figures from Navarre’s scene; and Sandra Cipolat & Taller de Músics Group, who fuse soul, jazz and experimental music into a new sound. Fresh, modern jazz comes with the Christopher Pérez Quartet, while Hajar offers a project shaped by the intersection of Spain and Morocco. The Plaça Major Estrella Damm will host Triquell, premiering his new album; Maria Arnal, with a pre-release performance of her upcoming record due in February; and La Ludwig Band, one of today’s most beloved Catalan groups, in one of the festival’s most anticipated nights.
Finally, El Sucre will resonate with the vitality of the new scene linked to feminist and LGTBIQ+ movements, featuring Ouineta, Fades, Svetlana and LaFrancesssa.
Final day of professional activity
Alongside the artistic program, this Friday MMVV Pro Catalan Arts will close after three days that brought together hundreds of music professionals. Today’s agenda includes meetings, assemblies and work sessions such as the gathering of La Red, the Xàfec association assembly, plus the final pitch sessions and the Link Project.
Particularly notable is the work session organized by the ARC association with the Equilatera cooperative, aimed at collectively drafting a guide of best practices against sexual violence in productions and concerts, designed as a useful tool for the entire sector. Also of note is the afternoon conversation at the Auditori Joaquim Maideu of L’Atlàntida on the queer perspective in the new Catalan pop, presented by Aïda Camprubí, highlighting the need to rethink music through diversity and inclusion.
A major innovation this year has been the Brindis sessions, now consolidated as a relaxed meeting space between artists and professionals. Today features two key editions: Brindis x Last Tour & Oso Polita, with the latest music news from northern Spain, and Brindis x Primavera Labels, premiering the 2025–2026 discographic releases ahead of Irieix’s showcase.
