It will feature 72 concerts, half of which are national projects, along with 25% from across Spain and 25% international proposals.
Rocío Márquez, with her new project Himno Vertical, will headline the opening concert this evening (7:00 p.m. at the Teatre Ramon Montanyà in L’Atlàntida).
This is the first edition under the new artistic direction of Joan Rial, Jordi Casadesús, and Rubèn Pujol, whose goal is to continue making the MMVV an internationally renowned music fair, placing the needs of the industry and the sector at the center.
MMVV Pro Catalan Arts runs until Friday at L’Atlàntida in Vic and expands into new spaces to connect with the city, such as the Church of dels Dolors and the Cathedral Square.
Today also marks the debut of the new activity Brindis, with a welcome session for accredited professionals and a toast dedicated to presenting the Festival Feroe.
The Mercat will continue through Sunday, September 21, bringing back the closing concert in the Plaza Mayor, this year headlined by Mishima.
The 37th Mercat de Música Viva de Vic (MMVV) begins today with an opening day that gathers leading names from the international and national scene while also shining a spotlight on premieres and new projects. Running until September 21, the MMVV reaffirms its commitment to being the main live music showcase in Southern Europe, in a year of change at the helm of its artistic direction, now led for the first time by Joan Rial, Jordi Casadesús, and Rubèn Pujol.
This new edition will host 38 premieres—of albums, tours, live shows, or projects—from today, September 17, until Sunday, September 21. In total, 72 concerts have been scheduled: half national acts, plus 25% from across Spain and 25% international. MMVV Pro Catalan Arts, the professional fair, runs until Friday, concentrating its activity at L’Atlàntida in Vic and, this year, also expanding into new venues across the city.
Opening concert
Tonight’s opening concert will be performed by Rocío Márquez at the Teatre Ramon Montanyà in L’Atlàntida. With Himno Vertical, being presented for the first time in Catalonia, the Andalusian singer offers an artistic journey that moves between flamenco, classical music, and experimentation—perfectly embodying the bold and innovative spirit of this year’s edition.
The opening will feature the institutional presence of Sònia Hernández, Minister of Culture of the Government of Catalonia, and Albert Castells, Mayor of Vic, who will take part in the official inauguration, reinforcing the strategic role of the MMVV in Catalonia’s cultural landscape.
Artistic program
Wednesday’s program will also bring to Vic artists such as Maika Makovski, premiering her new work Bunker Rococo, and Swedish musician Jay-Jay Johanson, performing songs from his latest album for the first time in Catalonia. Ferran Palau will present a new stage in his career with a unique format featuring strings and wind instruments, while Roserona will preview her new project.
The MMVV stages will also host Marina y su Melao, debuting her album Rezo al agua, and Mazoni, with a newly released record. Italian pianist and producer Bassolino will present his live show with his Live Band, and the group Lima Negra will debut with a fusion of Latin rhythms and popular music created in Vic.
At the Jazz Cava, Belén Natalí will open a new musical stage, culminating in her first LP at the end of the year, while Laura Agnusdei will present a solo project exploring electroacoustics, and the European trio MOVE will showcase why they are one of the emerging names in European jazz. Moroccan producer Guedra Guedra will thrill the audience with electronic music built from traditional polyrhythms. Meanwhile, at the Church of dels Dolors—a new MMVV venue—Amanda Mur will debut her album Neu Om, and Sardinian artist Bluem, based in London, will offer a unique live performance that blends music and visual arts.
PRO Area activities
Alongside the artistic program, the first day of MMVV Pro Catalan Arts brings together a range of activities at L’Atlàntida designed to strengthen the live music industry and energize the sector. The opening day will be filled with meetings, assemblies, pitchings, and speed meetings, enabling accredited professionals to share projects and build new contacts.
A key moment of the day will be the presentation of the CPMIC, the first collective of music producers in Catalonia, a pioneering initiative in Spain aimed at dignifying and recognizing the work of these professionals, while also promoting equality and collaboration within the sector.
The major novelty of this edition will be the launch of Brindis, informal and open gatherings that will take place throughout the three days of MMVV Pro Catalan Arts. This new format is designed to create connections in a relaxed setting, where companies and artists can present new work and build collaborations that often lead to tours and new projects. The first session, Brindis x MMVV, held at Ciutat dels Sants, will serve as the official welcome for professionals, followed by Brindis x Festival Feroe, where the new Festival Feroe—set to take place on November 14 and 15 at Poble Espanyol in Barcelona—will be presented.
Making the MMVV possible
The Mercat de Música Viva de Vic is made possible thanks to the involvement of public institutions that support it: the City Council of Vic, through the Autonomous Body of Fairs and Markets (OFIM), and the Government of Catalonia, through the ICEC. It also counts on the support of the Ministry of Culture (INAEM) and the Barcelona Provincial Council, through the ODA.
At the same time, it is made possible by the sponsorship and involvement of private companies such as Estrella Damm (main sponsor) and Vera (technology sponsor), as well as a number of other companies and institutions that collaborate with and support the MMVV.
