The first MMVV under the new artistic direction kicks off with a concert blending flamenco, classical, and experimental music
The opening featured the presence of the Minister of Culture, Sònia Hernández, as well as the Mayor of Vic, Albert Castells, and other authorities
The Ramon Montanyà Theater at L’Atlàntida was the stage for the opening of the 37th Mercat de Música Viva de Vic, which this evening hosted an exceptional concert by Rocío Márquez. The Andalusian singer presented Himno Vertical for the first time in Catalonia, her new musical project released in May 2025, accompanied solely by the classical and electric guitars of Pedro Rojas.
The performance invited the audience on an intense and daring journey oscillating between flamenco, classical music, and contemporary experimentation. It also served as a reflection on artistic authorship and the origin of creative inspiration through the body and the voice.
The inauguration was attended by numerous figures from the institutional and cultural spheres. Among them were the Minister of Culture of the Government of Catalonia, Sònia Hernández, the Mayor of Vic, Albert Castells, along with representatives from the Parliament of Catalonia, the Provincial Council of Barcelona, the Osona County Council, UVic-UCC, and the Vic City Council. Also present were council members and representatives of various institutions linked to culture, as well as industry professionals.
This inauguration marked the beginning of the first edition under the new artistic direction of the Mercat, led by Joan Rial, Jordi Casadesús, and Rubèn Pujol. Their project seeks to consolidate the MMVV as an international benchmark space for live music, placing the needs of the industry and the sector at the heart of the programming.
This year’s edition offers more than seventy performances between September 17 and 21, with a strong commitment to diversity in genres and formats, and featuring around forty premieres that make Vic a nerve center for artistic creation and circulation.
