– In the previous edition one thousand professionals attended from 20 different nationalities
– The MVLab, a programme for professionals, expands the area of speed meetings after the success of 2012
The Mercat de Música Viva de Vic (Vic International Music Festival, MMVV), one of the most important musical festivals in Europe and internationally, will celebrate its twenty-fifth edition from the 12th to the 15th of September in the city of Vic, near Barcelona. The artistic direction of MMVV has planned more than fifty concerts and is proposing a complete programme for professionals in order to promote the purchase/sale of musical productions, energise the musical industry, export the country’s musical talent and respond to the needs of programmers.
The programming is divided between MVLab, which is the professional section of the Mercat de Música de Vic, and the festival, with concerts open to the general public. The MVLab comprises the activities and musical performances directed to the professionals. The programme during the day is intended to reinforce the networking and the sharing of knowledge, as well as to provide practical and useful tools for the professionals, while the musical programming is especially directed to programmers of festivals, concert halls, theatres and auditoriums. In line with the trend of previous editions, the MVLab 2013 again focuses on the speed meetings, which are brief meetings designed to facilitate purchase/selling contacts and the sharing of information among professionals of the musical sector. The goal is put salespersons and buyers in contact, thus generating synergies and new possibilities of contracting. Last year the balance from the speed meetings was that more than 800 micro-meetings were held with notable success.
Regarding the festival, it will be inaugurated with a series of concerts celebrating the event that is taking place this year. Along these lines, the artistic direction, under Marc Lloret, has invited the six previous directors to plan a series of concerts that will serve as tribute to the momentum that each one of them has given to the MMVV. The groups participating in the event are Jaume Sisa & Quimi Portet & Joan Miquel Oliver; Mercy, Mercy Soul; Cabo San Roque; Tui Higgins & Xavier Monge jazz Project; The New Catalan Ensemble & Andrea Motis & Joan Chamorro and La Troba Kung-Fú.
As usual, included within the artistic programming of the Mercat de Música Viva de Vic, the latest records of artists will be presented such as Esperit, Marinah (former singer of Ojos de Brujo), Refree, Him Parody, Audience, The Right Ons, Tote King & Shotta or 08001, among others. Other proposals will be presented at Mercat for performances in concert halls and festivals on a national and international level, such as Gari, Zenzile, Rot Front, Rozalén, José Luis Gutiérrez Iberjazz Quartet or Carmen Souza. The Mercat will likewise include the presentation of new projects such as Pepino Pascual and the new shows of Standstill and Seward. Finally, the free programming is also worth mentioning, which is intended for the general public and will be held on Friday and Saturday night. Oques Grasses, Che Sudaka and Macaco will be the main performers on Friday at the plaza Mayor and El Petit de Cal Eril, Delafé and the Flores Azules and Gossos will perform Saturday night.
The MMVV is one of the benchmark events in the international musical scenario and forms part of important international associations such as the European Forum of Worldwide Music Festivals (EFWMF) and the Association for the Development of the Latin American Music Industry (ADIMI), whose representatives will be present in this edition. Furthermore, it has collaboration agreements and alliances with festivals such as Womex, Babel Med, MaMa Paris, M. Pour Montreal, The Great Escape, Canadian Music Week, Jazzahead, Waves Vienna, Salisbury International Arts Festival or Medimex. Likewise collaborating with MMVV are important associations of the sector, such as Avant-Mardi (France), MDS (France), the Pirineus Mediterránea of the euro-region and La Puglia Sounds (Italy). Additionally, this year also includes the participation of the Music: LX Luxembourg Export Office .
