The 24th edition of Mercat de Música Viva de Vic (MMVV) will be held from September 12th to 16th and will be staging over 65 different performances designed both to cater for the needs of programmers and to promote the buying and selling of musical productions, which are the Mercat’s fundamental objectives.
MMVV is an important marketplace for the music world and contributes to the promotion of our country’s music production, while at the same time it offers a space for reflection in terms of both music and the music industry.
The MVLab, MMVV’s professional trade-fair section, has been modified with new formats for stand-hire and an enlarged speed-meeting structure. The Puig-Porret Prize, endowed with its customary 10,000 Euros, has also been restructured and will be duly awarded to the best musical project.
As for the artistic programme, some of the performances on offer are the result of several international agreements, one of which was signed with the Cooperativa da Música de Minas, a government subsidiary body from the Minas Gerais region in Brazil, which will be showcasing and promoting the music from their territory. MMVV will be presenting two bands from this region. And in terms of international products to be premiered at the MMVV, noteworthy is the collaboration between emerging Korean band Jeong Ga Ak Hoe Korean and guitarist Marta Robles, one of the most exciting figures on the current flamenco scene, who will be bringing together the worlds of pansori and flamenco in a coproduction involving MMVV, Jeong Ga Ak Hoe and the Taller de Musics, with the collaboration of KAMS (Korean Arts Management Service).
MMVV continues to establish partnerships with major music festivals worldwide such as Womex, MaMa Paris (France), c/o Pop (Germany), Medimex (Italy), Celtic Connections (Scotland), Canadian Music Week (Canada) or Jazzahead (Germany).
During the Mercat, Vic becomes the capital of live music with meetings, conferences and forums specifically designed for professionals.
The critically acclaimed singer, Mayte Martín, has been chosen to perform at MMVV’s official opening concert and will be presenting a new compilation of boleros with a band of excellent musicians.
The programme will be staged at the MVLab, with products aimed particularly at professionals, but also open to the general public, and at eight further Festival venues featuring performances aimed at a wider audience with the aim of offering an attractive sample of our country’s currently booming music scene.
With the addition of a new 100-seat marquee in the Atlàntida area to host the Festival’s more intimate concerts, the 24th edition of MMVV will have a total of eight different concert venues: Plaça Major, Teatre Atlàntida, Auditori Atlàntida, Carpa Vermella, Carpa Negra, Jazz Cava, Sucre and Placa de la Catedral.
